Supports Nine Texas-based Makers and Artisans as Part of West Elm LOCAL program
West
Elm announced today its new Plano, Texas store, located at 7401
Windrose Avenue, will open at 10 a.m. on Thursday March 2. As the first
retailer to open inside the mixed-use Legacy West development, West Elm
brings 30 jobs to the neighborhood. Nine Texas-based makers and
designers will sell their products in the store’s summer assortment of
modern furnishings and décor as part of the LOCAL program, and a design
lab offering West Elm Style
+ Services within the 11,841 sq. ft. space will support customers in
their journey to express their personal style at home.
“Opening West Elm Plano gives us the opportunity to further support
communities throughout Texas and deepens our commitment to artists and
makers in the area,” said West Elm president Jim Brett. “There is a real
sense of neighborhood in Plano and we look forward to joining a
community known to many as a great place to work and live."
Looking to the vast prairies from which Plano—Spanish for “flat”— got
its name, West Elm works to bring nature’s rustic beauty into its newest
store. Evoking the early regional sawmills that helped settle this
former farming community, the flooring is fashioned from dense and
durable ipe wood, while a geometric design of maple, cherry, myrtle,
walnut and oxidized oak composes the cash wrap installation.
To celebrate the opening of its seventh Texas store, West Elm partnered
with Dallas-based artist Lily Smith-Kirkly of Lilco
Letterpress to design a limited edition tote bag that will be
presented to the first 300 shoppers with a $50 minimum purchase on
opening day. Additional store opening activities will include a
sweepstakes* offering local customers a chance to win a $2,000 gift card
and an invitation to a private pre-opening celebration on Wednesday,
March 1 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. A portion of the pre-opening celebration
proceeds will benefit the Hendrick
Scholarship Foundation, a local nonprofit that helps Plano ISD
graduates overcome adversity with scholarship and support services to
further their path of education and life skills.
A selection of locally made products by nine Texas-based makers and
