Tickets available now for 9-city event series
Starting this September, Christopher Kimball, founder of Milk Street
Kitchen, will launch a 9-city
Culinary
Mystery Tour
. The interactive event series presented by
Williams-Sonoma will feature Mr. Kimball in conversation with Matthew
Card, Milk Street’s Food Editor.
“The Williams-Sonoma brand is thrilled to have the opportunity to
partner with Christopher Kimball, one of America’s most trusted and
beloved culinary experts,” said Janet Hayes, President of
Williams-Sonoma. “He’s devoted his career to making cooking more
approachable for everyone, which is something Williams-Sonoma aims to do
through our classes in stores, how-to videos on our site and recipes in
our catalog. We’re looking forward to welcoming customers to this
one-of-a-kind tour.”
The 2-plus-hour show includes tastings for the audience, cooking and
live science demonstrations, on-stage culinary quizzes, an insider’s
tour of the all-new Milk Street kitchens, as well as rare blooper
footage. Science demonstrations will highlight why marinades don’t work
and brining does, how to whip an egg white to 50 times its volume, the
mysteries of gels and how the theory of parallel universes applies to
making soufflés and angel food cakes.
The interactive series also offers an evening for guests to share their
cooking problems and memories with Mr. Kimball, as he answers questions
from the audience and invites them onto the stage to compete in a
culinary quiz, taste-test jellybeans and make scrambled eggs. Mr.
Kimball challenges conventional culinary wisdom: Don’t soak your wood
chips! Don’t grill over high heat! The show will reveal how people
really cook at home, including examples of some of the worst ingredient
substitutions ever made.
“My favorite part of any live show is talking to the audience,” said Mr.
Kimball. “Everyone who cooks shares a deep affinity. There is no
separation between the audience and the stage. It’s two hours of
exploring our favorite subject, cooking.”
A limited number of premium tickets are available for each show which
entitle the holder to a meet and greet with Mr. Kimball plus a
personalized book signing for The Cook’s Bible and The
Dessert Bible.

About Milk Street
Milk Street is a place — 177 Milk Street — in downtown Boston. It’s also
a cooking school, a kitchen, the set of our new TV and Radio shows, and
the place where we create the recipes that we call “The New Home
Cooking” which are published in Milk Street Magazine. Founded by
Christopher Kimball, Milk Street travels the world looking for
techniques, shortcuts, recipes, ingredient combinations and all-new
approaches to cooking to revolutionize how we cook at home. Simple and
bold, these new recipes are inspired by the world of cooking but are
freshly adapted to the American kitchen. By using simpler, more
streamlined cooking techniques combined with more powerful combinations
of ingredients, we can produce dishes that, until now, we thought were
beyond our culinary skills.
