Floral Creations Hand-Crafted From Old Books on Sale for Two Days Only at west elm on Broadway and 62nd
BROOKLYN, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leading modern furniture retailer West Elm announced today a forthcoming pop-up installation designed by renowned event producer, David Stark, in their location at Broadway and 62nd in New York City. Opening on May 13, THE (purely paper) FLOWER SHOPPE will feature one-of-a-kind flora, watering cans, garden tools and other surprises – all of which are hand-crafted and created by David Stark Design from the pages of old books.
Known for repurposing everyday objects and materials, Stark’s signature style emerges in this upcoming installation where even the shoppe walls will be constructed from paper. The shoppe also celebrates the publication of Stark’s new book, David Stark Design, which will also be available at west elm.
“THE (purely paper) FLOWER SHOPPE exemplifies why we, and our customers, love David Stark,” said west elm creative director, Alex Bates. “He has an extraordinary ability to turn humble materials into surprising and beautiful creations. We couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate the launch of his book in this way.”
“What better way to celebrate the birth of my new book and the beginning of spring than getting lost in the fantasy of a million paper blooms at west elm,” said David Stark.
THE (purely paper) FLOWER SHOPPE marks the third time west elm has collaborated with Stark. In March 2009, west elm partnered with Stark to celebrate the opening of west elm’s Broadway location. For this event, Stark created one-of-a-kind sculptural objects made from recycled west elm packing materials that were auctioned off for charity. Later that year, west elm launched the successful David Stark holiday collection that included multi-functioning ornaments, garlands, table décor, and other festive pieces that mixed metallics with natural materials.
For Holiday 2010, west elm and Stark will introduce a new collection of festive décor and entertaining pieces including items similar in style to the hand-crafted creations for sale at THE (purely paper) FLOWER SHOPPE.
THE (purely paper) FLOWER SHOPPE will be open to the public May 13 and 14 only.
