THIS MISSION GUIDES NOT ONLY OUR BUSINESS DECISIONS, BUT OUR GIVING AND COMMUNITY STRATEGY. WE FOCUS ON ENCHANCING HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, PROVIDING PEOPLE WITH SAFE AND BEAUTIFUL SPACES, AND ASSISTING THOSE WHOSE HOMES HAVE BEEN DAMAGED OR LOST. WE ALSO WORK TO LEVERAGE OUR STRENGTHS AS A COMPANY, FROM OUR RETAIL STORES TO THE DEDICATION OF OUR ASSOCIATES, TO MAKE AN EVEN GREATER IMPACT.
Our commitment to making a difference comes to life through diverse initiatives that reflect the passion of our associates. One key effort has been on behalf of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the world's leader in childhood disease research. It is the place where doctors send their sickest patients, who are never turned away due to an inability to pay. Since 2005, our customers and associates have helped raise more than $30 million.
We have also been a leading supporter of the AIDS Walk in San Francisco, raising more than $1 million since the mid-90s to support people living with HIV/AIDS. And over the past 10 years, we have made grants to organizations nationwide that provide shelter and other services to homeless families and children. Totaling more than $1 million, these grants have gone toward child care, help for women escaping domestic violence, and recreational programs that offer children a safe, healthy and fun environment.
In addition to these efforts at a companywide level, our brands have embraced a variety of community initiatives, from supporting a campaign to end childhood hunger to working to cultivate new markets for artisans in the developing world. To support our associates' passion and commitment, we introduced our Matching gifts program in 2012 to honor their choices in giving to the causes they care about most. WSI provides our full-time corporate associates with paid time each year to volunteer. They choose where to devote their time, with efforts ranging from beach clean-ups to working at a local food bank to habitat restoration.
The charitable interests of our customers, associates and our community are very important to us. We specifically focus our efforts on shelter and crisis management as well as helping families maintain long-term stability and self-sufficiency. In order to maximize our impact, we actively target these focus areas. Unfortunately Williams-Sonoma, Inc. does not accept unsolicited grant proposals or donation requests, and, due to resource constraints, we are unable to reply to such requests at this time.
